Default The Hawaiian Anti-Cyclone

Nice severe-weather jet we're having over the US this week, aren't we?
Sucker swings in from way down low off Baja, below 30N, where you don't
normally see it.

Here's why:

(animate)

Watch that bugger swirl over Hawaii, a big sink spiral for the strong,
broad, persistant convection to the southwest. It buckles the
trans-Pacific jet, creating a down-stream trough off the west-coast.

Studing this associated pair of systems might lead to better modeling of
sub-tropical jets and "standing-wave" patterns.
