Freak September Snowstorm Blasts Calgary
Everything in the first photo melted the same day-THIS fell the following
overnight. The snow was VERY wet and extremely heavy, (temp 0C) you can see the tree on the right starting to bend. That's nothing, a local botanist estimates 100-200 thousand trees were severely damaged because all still had leaves and held the snow. Some areas had every tree destroyed. Also thousands without power for various times (including me) as falling branches and trees took down power lines everywhere. As of Thurs night most snow has melted except on west edge of city at higher altitude-where I live. Still a few inches on my deck. jim in Calgary |

Now a week after the snow, temps back above normal (25C here) some tree
shots in a park. Multiply by several hundred thousand to get an idea of what happened. Cleanup expected to last in to next year-about when repairs to riverside parks and the zoo from our flood of 6/2013 are also done... City says up to half million trees just on city property damaged. jim in Calgary "jim wilson" wrote in message ... Everything in the first photo melted the same day-THIS fell the following overnight. Yours seem to be blown over in the massive gales I've read about, ours were
crushed under the weight of wet snow. But yes, the results are the same. jim "Mad Cow" wrote in message ...
