However, the maximum since 09:00 so far is 8.5C. My lowest ever October maximum was 9.6C on 30th 2008. This is all the more surprising given the SST. The last sub 10C maximum was back in March.

In fact, most of the time it's been 6-7C, lower in the heavier bursts of hail.

The low temperature, combined with all the precipitation & a strong wind, has made it distinctly bleak. The ground was covered in hail at times
