Your sea breeze kept the drier air at bay. It will probably push into Devon this evening.
Very true! I've just checked my data and a sea breeze has been blowing
since 09:30 when the wind switched abruptly from the NE to SSE. That
explains why it has been very sunny here since mid-morning whilst inland
there has been quite a lot of cumulus development.
When the sea breeze arrived the DPs rose from 14C to 17C, and eventually
18C.
The sea breeze is still blowing well at 19:35 and the air feels warm and
humid (current DP at 16C).
People think sea breezes provide relief from heat and humidity but when
the sea is as warm as it is now, then sometimes it brings quite
oppressive conditions. This effect is earlier than normal and something
more akin to August.

The drier air made it here, but got pushed back north by the sea breeze around 1600z. See posting in Weather & Climate group. I have no doubt that the river air will push south again here overnight to give a cool night - despite current dewpoints of 15.
