Default June sunshine

It is most unusual to have two sunny months, with more than 200 hours of sunshine, in succession in Coventry, so with 254.0 hours of sunshine in the city during June 2018, the combined May/June total exceeded 500 hours at Bablake (506.1hr), the highest combined May/June total since before sunshine records began in 1894.

This is the first time we have had two consecutive months with more than 200 hours of sunshine since July & August 2006. Just out of interest, the record is four in 1989 and 1995, both from May to August.

As a month on its own, this was our sunniest June in Coventry since 1996 (268.6hr).

Only six June months have recorded more sunshine in June than 2018, these being 1957, 1975, 1996, 1940, 1976 and 1969 in rank order.

Taking the year as a whole, there have only been 16 months with more sunshine than June 2018 since 1894, the highest on record being 284.6hr in July 1990.
