[WR] Northampton - 2/3/2018
Snow depth at 10am = 5cm (no addition to last night)
Snow depth at 10pm = 10cm
Current temperature = -2.4C
The temperature has now been below 0C since 1pm Monday Feb 26th. Maximum
during that period was -2.1C at midday on Tuesday.
The situation today.
Looked out at 10 o'clock this morning, and there were no tyre tracks on
the road, so no one had tried to drive off the estate. First traffic
moving at about 11am. Buses didn't get up here till about lunchtime. Saw
the driver of the 4.30pm bus when out with the dog, and he said he had
just received instructions that buses were to travel no further than the
shopping centre a mile and a quarter away centre after 5pm. Possibility
that all services in the town would be suspended at 6pm - it was just
too dangerous because local roads had not been gritted.
Several roads in the county were impassable either because of stuck
vehicles or deep snow drifts, up to the top of cars in some places. Some
roads within Northampton blocked by "minor" drifts. Roads around the
Daventry area were very badly affected. Rail services to the north of
Northampton disrupted because of drifting snow in the Long Buckby area.
Started snowing here at about 3pm, and is still going on 8 hours later,
adding a further 5cm to what we already had. Although I live on one of
the highest points in Northampton (101masl), areas to the west within
town (50 metres lower than here) seem to be suffering more than we are
on the eastern edge of town. No traffic moving on the estate while I was
out with the dog an hour ago, and the A43 half a mile away sounded
extraordinarily quiet for this time of night - is that blocked again?
