High cloud Tuesday morning thickened into medium layers by lunchtime. Dry until 1830z when there was about 30 minutes of rain and snow mixed. Further rain during the evening. Dry from midnight until late in the night when rain started again - mainly slight, but with a brief moderate burst just before 0600z. Occasional slight rain Wednesday morning, becoming persistent and moderate in the past half hour. Largely overcast skies, but a few patches of blue appeared around 0900z and between 1100z and 1130z. Snow depth was 14 cm at 0900z, it is now 10 cm. 100% cover still, but looking quite thin in patches. Lethal ice on the lanes this morning. Lower down between Minsterley and Shrewsbury, the thaw is well underway, with patchy cover in fields, and brown drifts by the roadside. Much slush on side roads, but not frozen.
