I solved the
problem by replacing the temp/RH sensor with one of the new 'enhanced'
sensors which are supposedly more accurate. It has all been working fine
since then.
If anyone wants more detail on the digital T/H sensors in the Davis VP2 and
Vue stations then a detailed description is included in the following topic
on the Davis knowledgebase that we maintain:

NB1 This isn't really intended as light reading but the details are there if
you need them!
That's an interesting article, John. I hadn't realised it was all so
complicated. I recently bought the 7346.174 version to replace my faulty one.
I'm very happy with the replacement. Fitting it was no great problem though it
is useful to have a second person to hold the 'pile of plates' when the
temperature screen is dismantled. I also took the opportunity to give the whole
thing a good clean.
