He makes the appalling gaffe that the ice is being melted by heat. I
assume he is one of the Glowballsuppers.
"But the extent of ice cover is not the best measure of how the fire
raging in Earth's attic is affecting sea ice--the total volume of the
ice is more important."
If there is any excess heat in the earth's atmosphere it isn't capable
of melting ice directly is it?
When are these idiots going to use logic instead of Murdickisms?
It's too bad to be considered journalism!
This from Alastair's link indicates a more considered approach:
"While the researchers say two years of CryoSat data aren't indicative
of a long-term change, they speculate that the lower ice thickness and
volume in the winter of 2012, compared to the winter of 2011, may have
contributed to the record minimum ice extent during the 2012 autumn."
I think it is fairly obvious that in the absence of forest the
likelihood of most countries having outrageous weather should begin to
match Haiti. Once you get that mixing tendency you are likely to
dispose of most stability in the thermo-haline columne world-wide with
disastrous results seen across the board, from the poles to the
equator.
Lets hope that they don't discover a way to remove all the flora in
the southern hemisphere or they will both be at it.
