When this cold spell leaves us on Saturday that will be about two weeks
since it began. Without ploughing through the records it seems to me
that many of our similar spells in the past have lasted a for a similar
period.. Last years one was about 13 days, never to return and this lot
could well do the same .
Before anyone shoots me down I know December 2010 didn't comply ,but
that was one of our coldest on record ,I'm talking normal winters.
This should get 'em going.....

The first winter that I remember well was 1941 when I had just started
school
and was taken to school on a sledge. This was rapidly followed by 1947
which
is well documented. Spent 1962/63 on Dartmoor (some of you may have heard
of it) and now Ron, you are asking us to believe in a God-like creature
who
pre-determines that cold spells are only 14 days long and will apply the
cut-off point this weekend. It may interest you to know that up here, we
have
no snow and no unusually cold weather. Your weather is of as much interest
to us as the weather on Muckle Flodda is to you (:-))
