Default Anyone Remember?

Don't know if anyone remembers this one.
It was late winter early spring early 1980's and I was living in North
Leeds at the time.
The day started with an early morning hail shower with a temporary
cover of small hail. This soon melted away but was followed by
frequent snow showers during the day, none of which settled. However
in the afternoon at around 3pm it started to hail. This soon settled
then the hail got heavier and there was lightning and thunder for a
while this stopped after about 15 - 20 mins but the hail continues
till for some time. The hail built up to at least 6 inches and the
stones where perfectly round and large at around 5 - 10mm.

Does anyone have any memory of this or news articles from the time?
Does anyone have any idea of the exact date and weather setup that
caused this?

I was living in North Leeds at this time and I don't remember this
event, I was interersted in the weather at the time and such an
extreme event would surely have impressed on my memory.
Wherabouts in North Leeds were you, the severe event you describe
could well be be very localised.

And as for severe events, do you remember this one?
It was definately during the summer of 1983, but I can't pinpoint
the date any more accurately than that.

There was a storm, I can only imagine there was thunder but I
don't remember that. I only remember the rain.
The rain came down so hard that the road turned into a river
several inches deep, and torrents of water cascaded through
the bottom of the garden.

In all these years, I've still not known anything remotely like that storm.

Hi Col

I was living in Roundhay just about a mile from Roundhay Park.
The storm you described sounds like one I remember following a warm
dry spell the garden was baked solid.
Storms were forecast and even in the morning there were large Cu
around but in the afternoon the sky darkend form the south and on the
forward edge there was a lot of lightning. Following on there was a
long downpour which flooded the garden and even came in through the
then single glazed window. I was only young at the time but was
already interested in the weather. I don't have exact dates for this
but does it sound like it could be the one?
