Default Boat Race weather ... a bit of a blow?

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/olym...ng/7318164.stm

.... the race starts ~ 1715GMT. Mean 10m wind speed from GFS at 18GMT
of some 20kn, and using this product ...

http://www2.wetter3.de/Animation_06_...Grad/36_25.gif

it looks as the gusts could be around the 40 kn mark, though I suspect
this might be overdoing things. However, even at, say, 30 knots,
conditions in the open areas of the River will be tricky to say the
least.

[BTW, quick conversion from km/hr to knots ...

divide km/hr figure by 2
add the *tens* figure of that result to itself ...
e.g., 80 km/hr - (divide /2) - 40 (add tens fig) -44 knots. ]

Martin.
