A couple of weeks or so ago, there was a thread concerning the painting of
stands for Stevenson screens.
I have just come across an old met office pamphlet entitled 'Instructions
for making thermometer screens of the Stevenson type', HMSO, Revised in the
Meteorological Office, 1937.
In this it is stated that wooden stands should be creosoted for the lowest
21 inches of the legs, and the rest painted white. Metal stands should be
made of galvanised mild steel. There is no mention of painting these.
If anyone would like a copy of the pamphlet, please e-mail me, and I will
make a pdf copy.
Hope this is of some help.
