Here in Surrey and across Sussex there is major event going on with severe
storms. In Coulsdon rain is now torrential, cascades of water down my hill
and widespread flooding is now reported in the region. Could be big news.
Lightning become very active and deafening thunder. Now shutting down.

After the downpour had stopped (1105Z) I measured 60.1 mm
(since 8 a.m. BST) making it the second wettest day in my 24-yr record
after 1 Oct 1993 (68.5 mm). Not much lightning and thunder
considering the torrential nature of the rain at times. My road
turned into a river over its entire width, almost entirely due to run-
off from the field at the back of the house. This is now a wet July
(93.8 mm), the rainfall this morning almost exactly equalling the
1971-2000 average.
This has been an interesting and rather old-fashioned
summer though having said that I am very grateful indeed not to have
been flooded. Nothing is worse.
