I used to work at the Met Office at RAF Little Piddlington (well,
Little Rissington, actually) and 6 ft of snow was not uncommon there
in my day, as it was at 750ft, with no comparable high ground to the
east until you reached the Urals (no double entendre intended!).

Bit like Cromer having a sea fetch from Wrankel Island (to the N of
Siberia) in a northerly!
