Surprisingly good Monday and less good Tuesday

Despite lowish pressure on Monday, it was very sunny in Southampton and
quite warm, indeed both Sunday and Monday were better than expected,
Monday notably so. Was expecting heavy showers both Sunday and Monday
due to the lowish pressure and cold (?) polar airmass. By contrast,
despite pressure charts showing a ridge for today, it's much cloudier,
probably the least settled day since the 6th, aside from Saturday
afternoon when it rained briefly.

I was watching that cricket from Southampton yesterday evening, I was
jealous! Here it was cloudy all day, and rather cool, same so far
today. Sunday was much the same, since Thursday we've had very little
sun.

Well I don't know where "here" is Edmund, but I echo Nick's comments
about the Southampton area. It's been pleasant enough for the last few
days with plenty of sunshine, dry and for me, perfect temperatures in
the '60s (in old money). Gardening has been a delight - including
today.

What I really care about though is Hampton Court tomorrow - Jose
Carreras/Hayley Westenra's open air concert and with a lot of rain
around by tomorrow in the South, I've been eyeing the model data
nervously since last Saturday. They've all been predicting a 12 hour
dry slot for the South East on Wednesday evening, in between two rain
bands moving Eastwards. The model runs have been remarkably
consistent, including timing, for three days now and I am hopeful of
them getting this one right!

Now, I'm waiting for the long TAFs for Heathrow. Jon? :D

It's also notable that the temperatures have been no higher than
average - maybe even a degree or so lower - yet it actually felt *hot*
in the strong sunshine on Saturday midday (but cooler facing the north
wind). The last month or so has been notable for frequent occurrences
of this combination - very unusual in the summer months.
