Prepare for Winter

Ok, here's the scenario, Laurel & Hardy plus banana skin... the thing is,
you know what's going to happen, it's just a matter of when.

At the moment the weather is recreating this scene for us perfectly by
setting up a significant blocking pattern to the North. This feature forces
the polar jet stream to dive South, this has two effects. Firstly colder air
floods South, the second is more pronounced and longer living as the
ingredients are there for the development of a blocking Scandinavian high,
with warm air flooding in a lower levels, whilst ice cold air streams in at
upper levels to the Northwest.

The message is clear, although the UK is unlikely to see a major snow event
in the next 10 days, the cool down will be remarkable and next week will be
the week that Winter bites...

My Comment:
This will be interesting but we all know it is
not certain. Darren's model runs do not show it yet and as Darren has
pointed out the runs are all over the place. However, I think we are in for
some interesting times.

I think the Laurel & Hardy analogy is very appropriate. I'm waiting for
the slip-up in these forecasts.

That's a mistake. If that happens again to me on these discussion postings
I'll just pop up the url and then point out the topic that I have in mind.

That might be better, especially as it would avoid any risk of your
getting in trouble for copyright infringement. (Unlikely, since I
imagine the sites whosr articles you quote will welcome the publicity,
but if they haven't explicitly given permission then it could be a
risk.)
