Revised arrangement regarding the FAQ, Glossary etc.

1. The latest version of the uk.sci.weather FAQ & Glossary are now
available as in a thread elsewhere in this newsgroup.

2. As notified a few months ago, I wish to reduce the work that is
involved in the maintenance of these files, though since my earlier
post, I have, after offers of help from Roger Brugge and Les Crossan,
decided to continue for as long as possible to update these files.
There
will be changes though:

3. The first change is that the FAQ will only be updated three times
per
year: once in early/mid spring-time, once late summer and again in
early/mid winter - exact times to be chosen by me. The Glossary will
be
updated as and when required and not necessarily at the same time as
the
FAQ.

4. A duplicate (or 'fallback') copy of the full FAQ and Glossary will
be
hosted on Les Crossan's site: access this via:-

http://www.uksevereweather.org.uk/

5. The main FAQ/Glossary and accompanying / linked files will
gradually
be transferred from my Demon account to my NTL account. This migration
will take place over the next few months - and will inevitably lead to
broken links etc., until everything settles down. I am abandoning the
Demon account end January, so if you have links to the FAQ or it's
associated files please watch for announcements.

The 'whole-file' versions are already available on the NTL servers
at:-

http://homepage.ntlworld.com/booty.w...nfo/uswfaq.htm
and
http://homepage.ntlworld.com/booty.w...o/glossary.htm

If you have links to these versions of the files, then you can
immediately redirect them
as these locations will not change.

6. The last full update based on a two-month rolling programme will be
issued in mid-September. At that time I will re-announce the changes
above.

7. Please also note that the Met Office is relocating, indeed has in
large part (as far as IT systems are concerned)
already relocated to Exeter. Some of the information regarding contact
points etc., wrt Met Office entries in the
FAQ may not be correct in about 6 to 8 weeks time.

Revised arrangement regarding the FAQ, Glossary etc.

The alternative address of http://cc0020209.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/index.htm
can also be used and has fewer caching and refresh problems from some ISP's.
The uksciweather pages are fairly obviously displayed on the bottom left of
the header frame.

I ultimately intend to host this on my own server.

All comments welcome, people!

Les
