Dear All

Does anybody know where I might be able to get some decent reprints
(preferably blown up!) of any photographs from the 1962-3 snows?

I would imagine that there are some photographic collections somewhere?

Cheers
Richard

I'd like to know that answer to that as well, Rich. I have three very poor
ones from the Guardian on my website, plus one Phil Gurr kindly let me use.

Richard, I have some Dutch sites with pictures of a snowy/wintry Holland in
1963. But I think you'd like to have only UK-picts?

I have about 10 high-quality on CD-ROM. Mainly around London, but some
further North with some spectacular snow drifts.

Let me know if you want emailed or rather uploaded.

I have a few B & W pictures taken by my brother (or his mate) in Jan 63 of
the snow drifts at Worms Heath, Surrey. I could scan them, tart them up a bit
and send them to you. The quality is not great, but passable. You are welcome
to use them, with acknowledgements

Best wishes, Tudor Hughes, Warlingham, Surrey.

Anyone with some willing to share, would they be willing to post them to
news:alt.binaries.pictures.weather for all of us to share... it's not the
busiest of ng's....

I'm sure my dad's got some which I'll scan & post... I was only 3 but
remember him coming home from work & scraping the snow off the wooden
conservatory roof so that the weight didn't collapse it !!

here in South Cumbria we had very little snow but it froze solid and we were
carrying water to cattle in churns filled from a standpipe at the top of the
drive.
There was frozen sea water ice lying on the beach and I can remember we did
get up to Tarn Howes because that froze solid as well.

One advantage of snow is that it acts as an insulator and helps protect the
water pipes

I take it you have the following books:-
'The Kent WeatherBook"
"The Sussex Weather Book"

Bob Ogley, Our own Ian Currie, Mark Davison.

Both these books have a few photos. You must have these books!

And I think there was one for Surrey also.. hmm not sure.

There is. And Ian Currie has also produced one with the title "Frposts,
Freezes and Fairs".

Thanks to everyone for their ideas, I was thinking of some reprints that I
could frame and hang up in my flat (and also thinking of Xmas present ideas
maybe...) and wondered if there were any vaults anywhere (esp. in London)
that might house some pictures. I've never really looked into anything like
this before.

Cheers
Richard
