do you lot get many extreme weather?

here in sandown, i tend to find that snow never lays when everyone else gets
it.

Thunderstorms usually totally miss us and goes up the channel, and when its
hot everywhere, its cool compared to the local area.

Hi, Stuart,

You do get more than your fair share of sunshine, though! I think that's
why a lot of people like your island - it's certainly the reason I have
made the long trek there on four or five occasions.

I've been every other year in August for a week for the past ten or so
years to Bembridge (Whitecliff Bay) and can't remember a particularly
wet week. Can't go this year on account of being several thousand

miles
away in California :|

Hi, Jonathan,

Ventnor was always my favourite with the Downs as a backdrop.

Death Valley is worth a visit when you are in California - another of my
favourite places. I managed to get a shade reading just above 50C there
with electronic themometer hanging from car window. The official high on
that day was 125F (51.7C).

Have fun, it's Madeira for me this year.

ATB,

I can see the cumulonimbus that form over it...

Where is the furthest ground-level location from which the Garden Isle can
be seen?
I believe it is most likely Win Green (910 ft asl) on the road between
Cranborne and Shaftesbury.
Apart from this sort of location, it can be seen from the A31 between Cadnam
and Ringwood, where it crosses the ridge between the Higherland and Bratley
Waters, both tributaries of the Lymington River and along which valley the
view is obtained. More distant views may be obtainable from the South
Downs.
