Another vile winters morning, at least the rain has become lighter.
Looking at the radar it seems to moving away eastwards. Cold & wet yesterday and overnight with fog for much of the day. The latest Met office graphics for next week look a bit milder with temps up to 8c on Tuesday, much better than this muck. 09.09 Max 3.4c Min 1.2c Rainfall 25.8mm Sun Zero Current temp 2.2c Graham |

A huge temperature differential over relatively short distances. Peter Nockles Didsbury, south Manchester (currently +3.7c at Rostherne). |

Yes Peter even here we only managed 3.4c while Leek 9 miles to our NNE recorded 5.4c but Keele around 11 miles to our west only recorded 5.0c We are higher than both Leek and Keele met office sites. I noticed the Met office had Keele as the lowest maximum for the West Midlands. Shawbury around 30 miles to our South west did get to 10.9c. Graham |

It was very wet overnight. By 0630 the rain had turned to sleet. By 0700 it was back to rain then from about 0745 till 0830 we had quite a heavy fall of ice pellts, rattling on the conservatory roof like hail. It then reverted to sleet and shortly after 0900 it turned to snow. There's been slight snow since then and the temp has slowly fallen to +0.2C. There's about 1 cm of lying snow. Looking at the webcams, we've got more snow on the ground than there is at the Cat & Fiddle (515m) and Winking Man (440m) pubs and at Flash Bar (460m). Although these sites are all higher than here they are all to the SW. Presumeably the colder air got there later than it got to here. Who'd be a forecaster trying to get that sort of detail correct! -- Norman Lynagh Tideswell, Derbyshire 303m a.s.l. https://peakdistrictweather.org Twitter: @TideswellWeathr |

Yes Norman I looked at Cat & Fiddle and Winking man earlier and it was just wet. They have had some snow in the last hour or so but not much. Must be a nightmare to forecast. I'm hoping we dont get any as my wife has a 10 mile drive from work later and she doesnt leave until 5pm. Graham |
