I had no choice Julian.
You'll be put there by google.
The old classic groups are no more.
They have ceased to be.

I've always found that a proper newsreader is preferable to Google Groups.
I use XanaNews.

I'll have a look at that one later. I used to use Monzilla Thunderbird.
Google I find is a bit chunky at times, if you know what I mean.

Thanks

I use XanaNews software with the News.Individual.Net news-server. I've been
using that setup ever since u.s.w. started.

Knowing it was going to happen sooner or later I've been using it for a
while. As I don't use labels this hasn't been an issue for me, but I
understand that others do use them. Hopefully Google will improve this
(don't other groups use them?). I can post photos without the issues
that Norman has had, so I can understand that he might not be happy.
The only constant is change after all. Whether we like it or not....

I'm quite happy with the new groups. There's nothing about it that particularly worries me. I've never quite grasped the anti google thing on this newsgroup, which can be rather patronising at times (though not in this thread!). A lot of it seems to be tradition (you can't beat MS-DOS, Supercalc & Wordstar after all) & how uk.sci.weather started. It was a while before I switched to Google Groups.

I've been flipping between the 2 for a while. A big advantage with the new Groups is that when I post photos, I no longer have to worry about resizing them (though it's probably still best to do so) Google Groups can now do it for me.

In fact, I tend to post more on Weather & Climate now, as I'd rather include images than links.

I've found a FreeNews Server 'nntp.aioe.org' and got into uk.sci.weather using Mozilla Thunderbird. I also subscribe to 'Weather and Climate', but this one doesn't appear on the list(s) when I search, am I right in thinking that it won't or am I missing something.

I'll have a few test today on uk.sci.weather using this new news server and Thunderbird. This one is posted using google...

You're right. Groups that were specifically set up on Google Groups are
only available there.

Good luck!
