Default Thermometer catastrophe

Resetting my wood-mounted Casella mercury max thermometer yesterday (used since 1993) it caught the edge of the open screen door fell out of my hand and broke. Numbing shock.

With mercury thermometers not being sold now I'm interested to know what a modern equivalent thermometer is that official weather stations use? Have modern stations gone electronic?
Thanks for any info.
Terry

This is a difficult one.
I suggest you contact Stephen Burt at COL for advice.

Thanks for the information Alan, I'll ask how much they are. POA is always a bit worrying. I'm hoping the insurance will cover replacing it.
