Default Windy, sea very rough, but not a huge swell

Despite this persistent wind, the swell height is currently less than at times during the late February summer. 12-14' currently, 15' clean and surfable during late Feb, when the synoptic setup was perfect for a big, long period powerful swell to hit Cornwall.

The biggest swell during the last week or so was the night the Sennen lifeboat went out, they spent 8 hours in a 20' swell (sig wave height, the largest waves would have been approx 50% bigger). I bet getting around Lands End in that was quite an exerience by any standards. https://rnli.org/news-and-media/2019...fishing-vessel

However, overall this winter has seen a lack of anything really big on either coast which, photographically, is a bit of a letdown. Even Penzance prom has only been closed on a couple of occasions. The largest swell at Sevenstones all autumn / winter was about 26'. It can get well over 30', 38' back in 2016 http://www.turnstone-cottage.co.uk/StormImogen2016.pdf .

Today is just mild, dull, windy & slightly damp, hence the reminiscing.

Actually, it's been dry & bright much of the day, with sunny intervals as the cloud broke a bit descending into Mounts Bay.

Windy though. At Gwennap Head up to 64mph, and gusting 50mph all day, just starting to decrease https://weatherfile.com/location?loc_id=GBR00026

Down in Penzance maximum gust 42mph at 11:00, gusting close to 40mph all day until 15:00.

Maximum of 13.2C after a minimum of 11.0C last night.
0.5mm rain in the 24 hours to 09:00, no measurable rain since.

No sun here today making it the first sunless day since the 16th February.

Breezy but with a maximum gust of only 31 mph, a much 'calmer' day than
recently, and dry too.

Wind run (1st - 15th) at 2691 miles, some Marches record less than that
for the entire month. Looking at the forecast for something settled next
week, I suspect this month will not end up record-breakingly windy. That
record goes to March 2008 with 4601 miles.

Nearly half-way though the month and it has been milder, wetter but much
cloudier than average:

Mean maximum = 12.5C
Mean minimum = 6.3C
Mean = 9.4C
Rain = 59 mm
Sunshine = 47 hours.
