Air frost on SW Devon coast
Had the third earliest air frost in my record going back to 1985 last night..
Oct 17th 1992 -0.6°C Oct 29th 2008 -1.0°C Oct 30th 2018 -0.5°C It is more remarkable because in the last 4 winters I have had to wait until after New Year to have the first air frost. Wot's going on? ;-() Len Wembury SW Devon coast |
Air frost on SW Devon coast
Len, I recorded the lowest October temperature since before 2005 and
completely trounced my previous lowest October minimum of -2.2C (21st October 2010). Last night's minimum was -4.3C. I frequently have recorded entire years where the temperature never gets that low. It was exceptional, especially given that October frosts are fairly rare (the last one being in 2010). But a beautiful day ensued with unbroken sunshine yet again and a maximum of 11.2C. Going off chilly again! Could be another humdinger. -- Nick Gardner Otter Valley, Devon 20 m amsl http://www.ottervalleyweather.me.uk |

But last night caught up with us with -3.5C.. Some of the banana plant leaves look like wet spinach! I had to go back to October 2003, where I found that the period 21-28 October inclusive gave readings of -3.1;-2.0;+3.7;-2.3;-3.5;+1.4;-2.5 & -2.8C.This gave me some solace. The last time we had an October airfrost here was in 2012. |
