Weather Banter - [OBS] Ystrad, Rhondda

Friday afternoon's mainly slight precipitation became moderate to heavy after 1800z, and continued throughout the night until just after 0730z when it became mainly slight, although there were a few periods of slight rain overnight too. Maximum rate was 68 mm/hr around 0700z, and the most that fell in an hour was 16.6 mm in the hour up to 0734z. Little discernable impact from the rain - trains are running and I can see traffic on both roads either side of the valley. I haven't looked at the river yet, but imagine it is a fair bit higher than yesterday. Much wetter further to the north of here, where the Brecons probably received about 200 mm during the 24 hours. Cloudy and grey throughout the 24 hours. Surface wind mainly southerly - F3 or less for long periods of time (low-level air no doubt made stable by the falling rain) but a few short periods (less than half an hour) where it has picked up to F4-5, usually coinciding with the periods with light precipitation. Event total as of 0900z today is 146.2 mm.
