Default West Cornwall, sunny warm (for October) & surfy.

It dropped to 10.2C in Penzalance last night, after a maximum of 15.3C yesterday, under rather persistent cloud.

Virtually unbroken sunshine today, so far, accompanied by a F3 SSE wind with excellent visibility. A good wave which should build this afternoon, and then forecast to decrease Wednesday into Thursday.

The primary swell forecast for Friday near Lands End is now 23'. With offshore winds, the breaking height is forecast to be 20' with a 16-17sec period.
https://magicseaweed.com/Sennen-Surf-Report/4/ . Probably just as well it doesn't coincide with today's Spring tide.

Just went to look at the level of Drift, the reservoir feeding Penzance, it's still dropping. Now well below the level in 1995, the last drought year. It's interesting seeing some of the old flooded properties for the 1st time.

Looking at https://www.southwes****er.co.uk/env...voir-storages/ Southwest Water must be hoping for a decent spell of rain soon.

The nearest reservoir to Penzance shown is Stithians, which is only as full as it is as they can pump water into it from the larger ones. That isn't the case for Drift which supplies Penzance. It has been rather drier in west Cornwall than Bodmin Moor & Dartmoor where the water is collected for supply to much of the SW.

It's dropped a fair bit more since.

Usually, the footpaths around here are getting quite muddy by
mid-October. This year they are still very dry, despite 155 mm of rain
since 5th September. The effects of the summer rainfall deficit are
still very apparent.

I normally find rain is the result of you heading west Len!

Swell forecast has dropped a bit (for Cornwall), the development is a bit too late to generate the really big swell I was hoping for. With the depression deepening a bit later than was thought a couple of days back, the forecast period has also dropped from 17-14 secs.

Going to be very windy though.

Very dry here still.

Both GFS & the MetO are predicting the strongest winds of the Autumn for west Cornwall, by quite a margin if they turn out to be correct. These very strong winds are just ahead of the front, rather than closely associated with the depression, which is well away.

However, the MetO warnings still cover the area which were forecast to have the strongest winds a couple of days back, when they were associated more with the depression which at that time was forecast to track a bit further east. Now west Cornwall, Pembroke & the LLeyn peninsula are forecast are forecast to see stronger winds than much of the current warning area (excluding the Hebrides.) and for quite a long time

GFS https://www.xcweather.co.uk/forecast/penzance
MetO very similar.

After a lovely sunny day, a sudden sharp shower & it's gone really dark.
Fantastic clean wave at Porthmeor St Ives this morning. I was just watching..
