Default [OBS] Ystrad, Rhondda - Sat 11 Aug 2018

0900z: 12005KT 50km 7SC040 (/AS100) 14.3/11.5 QFF 1021.7 falling.
SYNOP: 42684 81205 10143 20115 40217 57009 8752/ 333 87640=
Cool and clear evening followed by a clear and cold night with copious dew. Cloud rolled in from the southwest between 0715z and 0730z and it has been cloudy since. Light northerly breeze during the evening, veered northeasterly overnight, and has now veered further to southeasterly. Excellent visibility. Asperitas formations on the underside of the stratocumulus.

Max: 19.2 (1452z)
Min: 6.2 (0514z)
Rain: 0.4 mm

1800z: 18003KT 3500m Heavy rain and drizzle 7ST005 8ST008 16.4/15.3 QFF 1016.1 falling.
SYNOP: 11235 81803 10164 20153 40161 57017 60222 75965 887// 333 10166 87705 88708=

A proper "Rhondda rain day" with persistent moderate to heavy rain and drizzle. Precipitation started at 1010z, light at first, but became moderate by 1130z and heavy by 1430z, and it has been mainly heavy ever since, including 5.2 mm between 1500z and 1600z, and 4.2 mm between 1700z and 1800z. 21..8 mm of rain has fallen since it started. Extensive low cloud has developed since the rain started. It was quite cool to begin with, with temperatures around 14, but has steadily warmed up through the afternoon to the current 16.5 or so. Surface wind has been light all day - southeastely to begin with, veering southerly by 1700z. Excellent visibility before the rain started, but moderate or poor since about 1100z. Maximum temperature for today so far is 16.6 (1547z).
