Looking at this http://www.met.reading.ac.uk/~brugge/hitemp.jpg it struck me how similar the highest temperatures have been across the UK
On that map, only some Scottish islands have failed to reach 20C, very few places have reached 25C. A warm month so far, but never hot. For what it's worth, the highest in Penzance so far this month is 23.3C. Graham Penzance |

26 here in the Rhondda - away from the sea air to the south, and away from the North sea stratus to the north east on the other side of the Brecon Beacons. It's a pity there are no official sites around here,as it is a quite unique microclimate.

A benign month so far, with Storm Hector having little influence here.Highest temperature on 4th, at 24.7C. Eleven days out of the first half month reaching 20C or more. Only one day with measurable rainfall; 6.4mm. The most unusual feature is the barometric pressure. For three weeks, this has remained between 1011 and 1019mb, atleast at my recording time. Boring for those people with barographs! |

One thing you can be sure of is that the official warmest / coldest / wettest spots are some way off reality. The map does show the even spread of maximum temperatures. There are now no official sites on the whole of the south coast of Cornwall.. Camborne is used for 'recent Penzance' weather, but is vastly different as it's near opposing coast, so temperatures are frequently 5C different on a sunny day in summer, due to the wind direction. During days when it gets sea fog (which it is very prone to) the difference in Spring can be near 10C. For a while the MEtO used to say (for recent weather - Penzance) there was no representative site nearby, now they've reverted to Camborne. SO being told it's foogy & 14C with a moderate NW wind, when it's actually sunny, 21C & near calm, must confuse a few holidaymakers. Penzance was frequently the warmest spot in winter. It still is, but the public are blissfully unaware. In fact there are no low level sites along the 300+ miles of Cornish coast, apart from Bude, nearly 100miles from Lands End. The only other stations in Cornwall being Culdrose & Cardinham, unrepresentative of where most people live, which is at low levels near the coast sheltered from the prevailing winds, Falmouth, Truro, St Ives, Penzance/Newlyn, Padstow/Wadebridge etc. Just 1 or 2 representative stations would be nice, say St Ives & Falmouth. Boring for those people with barographs! Very similar here Peter, 3.3mm of rain, mean temp 16.8 (+1.8C), pressure range 1012 to 1020. I was very, very lucky on Scilly. The 1st week of JUne saw a fair bit of cloud in the far SW. Then, on Scilly (9th-15th) there was almost unbroken sunshine, apart from 16:00 on 13th until 11:00 on 14th (Hector frontal cloud).. I've never had such a sunny holiday in the UK. I intend to post a few pics to my website. It's also been generally cloudy since my return on Friday. Graham Penzance |

It has definitely been a month of two halves in inland South Wales. Up to the 12th a mean maximum of around 23, and only one day with measurable rain (which fell at night); since then, a mean maximum of 18-19 and rain every day (17 mm). Not quite as much of a contrast as seen in western Scotland, though! -- Freddie Ystrad Rhondda 148m AMSL http://www.hosiene.co.uk/weather/ https://twitter.com/YstradRhonddaWx for hourly reports (no wind measurement currently) |

Just got back from a week's coast path walking in north Pembrokeshire. A very different feel to the climate there, being cooler (and a little wetter!). But a fairly sunny and extremely pleasant week overall. Storm Hector brought a windy night with some rain in the early hours of Thursday then followed a gloriously sunny but breezy and cool day. Here I see the weather has been its usual June warmth with every day over 20C and I note one particularly warm day on the 11th with 27.7C and a DP around 17C to 18C, that must have felt warm. Far warmer than anything we experienced in Pembrokeshire. Still no rain this month and the soil moisture at 30 cm is reading 30 cb, for a sandy soil that is rather dry. 117 hours of sunshine so far this month. -- Nick Gardner Otter Valley, Devon 20 m amsl http://www.ottervalleyweather.me.uk Storm Hector had minimal affect on Scilly. 14th at Porthcressa - http://www.turnstone-cottage.co.uk/140618.html fairly calm & sunny Topped 20C on St Martins. Hi, Graham, Meanwhile, at the opposite corner of England and a touch higher up - the Copley stats Temperatures 17.1C / 8.7C / 12.9C(+0.4C all month norm) Highest 22.5C on 1st with another 3 days topping 20C, lowest max 13.0C on 4th. Lowest min 4.6C this morning(17th) 4 grass frosts so far, lowest -2.5C. Rainfall 19.8mm(31% all month norm) with 15.6mm of that total on 2nd, 4 rain days. Sun 82.0hr (46% all month norm) with 3 sunless days so far Storm Hector brought a gale SW35G50KT on 14th with barometer down to 995mb. Great Dun Fell further up Teesdale had SW 69G87KT.
