Slight rain started around 1030z, and became moderate and accompanied by drizzle around 1130z. Gloomy and miserable day now, with low light levels, extensive low cloud and poor visibility. Surface wind has backed right round to SEly and the pressure fall has accelerated. Looks like the wave is on its way.

A thoroughly miserable afternoon, with typical Rhondda-style persistent moderate precipitation. 9 mm of rain has now fallen since it started four hours ago from a frontal system which - according to the radar - has kept its main activity away to the north of us. The cold front is now approaching from the west and should provide a period of heavy rain judging by the colourful echoes. Maximum temperature so far today is 12.2 (1338z).

The miserable weather continues into the evening, with heavy rain, a F4-5 WSWly wind and extensive low cloud. Moderate rain and drizzle increased to heavy around 1545z, with sustained rainfall rate of 6-9 mm/hr since (most in a single hour was 7.0 mm 1609-1709z), resulting in a total of 15 mm between 1500z and 1800z, before easing down to moderate between 1720z and 1755z. It has pepped up again since then and is currently at a rate of just over 10 mm/hr. The 12-hour rainfall total now stands at 24.2 mm, the total for the month is 151.8 mm, and a grand total of 323.6 mm since I started recording on 08/03/2018. When estimating average monthly rainfall totals from the Met Office climate maps page on first moving here, I found it unbelievable that most months could expect over 150 mm, with the winter months receiving 250 mm each. I believe it now. The total number of rain and "wet" days doesn't appear to be too different from my previous sites in Shropshire and Mongomeryshire, but the amount that falls in each event is much much greater. When it rains here, it rains!
