Penzance - Mild sunny start.

The temperature dipped to 2.7C overnight, but already back to 10C in sunshine and a light southerly wind. Forecast to reach 11C, but looks certain to 12C. 2.8mm rain in the 24 hours to 09:00, which largely fell on me early afternoon.

Tomorrows going to be a bit of a shock. A period of snow now forecast late afternoon early evening, with a temperature of 1-2C.

Unlikely to settle near the coast I would have thought. My latest ever date for snow falling is 20/03/07, snow settling / ground cover 2nd March.

Latest for snow settling here in Wembury is 19th March 1987. (record began 1984)
Snow settled also on 1st March 1993, 8th March 1996 and 1st March 2018.

Any snow has become a rarity for March with only falling snow recorded on
4th March 2001 and 1st March 2006.

P.S There was a notable snow settling event (Polar low)for this area on 25th April 1981.
I was not living in Wembury at the time. But Plymouth had a good covering.

I was living in Taunton, Somerset, at that time and remember it well. It wasn't a polar low, though - it was a baroclinic feature that ran SE from Ireland across Cornwall and then ESE into northern France. Strong cold advection behind it ensured temperatures fell low enough for snow.

I was living in Wooton Bassett at the time (not Royal at that time, it moved up market just after I left) and we had a few cm of snow. It was rain to the east of Swindon.

I remember the discussion at the time as to whether it was a polar low.
I think it started off as a polar low as the satellite picture sequence shows from 21st April, but you are right, it ended up by being fired up by baroclinicity around 24th and 25th April.
