Conditions outside Tideswell

Just had a walk in the lanes outside the village. Roads and fields are
blown almost bare in places while other places have deep snow. The
concept of 'level depth' simply does not apply. There's numerous drifts
to around 1.5m and a few deeper than that. The lanes are passable only
by tractor but the main roads are apparently OK. The ploughs and
gritters have done a good job.

We tried to time our walk to coincide with a gap between showers but it
didn't work out. We got caught in a heavy shower and with the wind
gusting probably to 35-40 knots we had about 15 minutes with visibility
around 20 metres. Not very pleasant. It's very easy to see how people
get lost on the hills in these conditions.

We had a snow plough along our road earlier this afternoon but he might
as well not have bothered. The drifts have all reformed.

Current temp is -6.1° after reaching a max of -4.2°.

Not sure exactly where this is but it's representative of the lanes
that we walked along this afternoon.

Still awaiting my first snowflake here Norman though there has been
plenty of the white stuff down in The Hams and the south and far west of
Cornwall.

Another rather sunny day with the temperature just making it above
freezing today to a maximum of 1.2C. This makes it the lowest maximum
since the 20th January 2013 (+0.9C).

It was also a very cold night (for here) with a minimum of -4.8C.
