20107 Barencburg(76m), Svalbard and Jan Mayen, Spitsbergen

The coordinates in the vola-legacy-reports a
78 03 20N 014 13 16E

The wmo number suggest it is part of the Russian group, yet, surely this is part of Norway?

Looking on Wikipedia, I found that - although it's part of Norway -
"Other settlements [on the island] include the Russian mining community
of Barentsburg". I wonder how that works. Presumably Norway and Russia
must have some sort of treaty governing just what members of the mining
community are allowed to do.

Thanks. I looked at the article on Svalbard, but didn't think to go on
to look at the one on Barentsburg.

Thanks for the replies, surprising what one un earths when you start to look a little closer. I'm breaking down the Russian Oblasts/ Republics etc, such a vast Country.

I have recently done this for my Chinese reports, I find it gives them a bit more meaning geographically.

When I visited Svalbard many years ago, we visited Barentsburg and found
it was essentially a mining town populated by Russians. How they came to
be there, I don't know but it might account for any weather station
there being part of a Russian group. I think Pyramiden is/was also
populated by ex-pat Russians but is probably derelict now.

It IS hard to imagine anyone in Western Europe missing this. Certainly nobody from uk.sci.weather:

Right?

And that's all that you can see from sea too see
Which is all very well, except...
How did this:

And:
Where.. in Britain... is it being discussed?
...with no breadcrumbs!

A nuclear submarine can be destroyed relatively safely with long term effects but little initial problems that make it difficult to instigate.

Why have they aimed @: https://weathercharts.wordpress.com/2018/02/15/ice...

Controlled volcanic eruption (inevitable next few days)
