Why does the met office auto forecast show heavy snow symbols (for Leek)
from 10.00 to 16.00 tomorrow then light snow from 17.00 to midnight when the written forecast says scattered wintry showers? Friday is the opposite. The written forecast says heavy wintry showers with thunder? To add to the confusion the warning is for wind, it then says the snow warnings below does not apply to this area?? Graham |

Graham Because one is straight model output whereas the other is written by a human forecaster. I often find a similar conflict for this area. The model still isn't very good at giving location/time-specific forecasts. IMHO I don't think raw model output should be issued as end-user material to Joe Public. -- Norman Lynagh Tideswell, Derbyshire 303m a.s.l. https://peakdistrictweather.org Twitter: @TideswellWeathr |

Graham Graham, Looking at the Leek forecast issued at 0900 there are no heavy snow symbols between 1000 and 1600 today, they are just indicating sleet. I don't see any confusion with the warning. If you look at the map its clear that Leek is outside the zone for snow. However, if you were to travel 17 miles to the northeast you would enter the snow warning area. Dick Lovett |

Dick Lovett I see it's now changed from earlier. It is now showing sleet until 17.00 then snow from 18.00 to 22.00 Graham |
