It's about 400 km NW of Edmonton, on the flat lands just east of the mountains.
Elevation about 600m so snow is probably unusual in June.

A couple of years ago we got snowed on in June on the Icefields Parkway between
Jasper and Banff but that was at 1500-2000m so not so unusual.

One amusing feature of Rycroft, gleaned from Google Earth, is that the E/W
roads in the town (all 4 of them) are named 45th Avenue to 48th Avenue while
the N/S Roads (there are more of them) are named 43rd Street to 55th Street.
Whatever happened to the lower numbers? Was the place a lot bigger in days gone
by?

It would have had to be huge if the numbers counted up from 1.

Maybe the town developers harboured hopes that it was going to grow into
a much bigger place, and chose those numbers to avoid the risk that in
future some negative numbers might be needed.

Or simply thought up some more imaginative street names.
We seem to manage it :)

Yes, but the grid system of numbered streets does make it very easy to
find your way around.
