I don't recall anything this high being forecast? It wasn't, not remotely. IIRC, the SE was forecast to get 19-21°C yesterday. NW England was supposed to be the 'hot-spot'. -- Col Bolton, Lancashire 160m asl Snow videos: http://www.youtube.com/channel/UC3QvmL4UWBmHFMKWiwYm_gg |

There was a large model error in the positoning of rain areas yesterday. This kind of error is quite common in the situation we had yesterday, whereby mesoscale events (initiation of convection over France) have a synoptic-scale effect, owing to the mesoscale effects influencing the large-scale flow. I guess the forecasters have to go along with the model if it looks reasonable at the outset. You don't see the same errors with systems that come in off the Atlantic as the systems have less mesoscale influences and hence are inherently more predictable (as the models do the synoptic scale quite well) -- Freddie Castle Pulverbatch Shropshire 221m AMSL http://www.hosiene.co.uk/weather/ http://twitter.com/PulverbatchWx for hourly reports |
