It wasn't, not remotely.
IIRC, the SE was forecast to get 19-21°C yesterday.
NW England was supposed to be the 'hot-spot'.

There was a large model error in the positoning of rain areas
yesterday. This kind of error is quite common in the situation we had
yesterday, whereby mesoscale events (initiation of convection over
France) have a synoptic-scale effect, owing to the mesoscale effects
influencing the large-scale flow. I guess the forecasters have to go
along with the model if it looks reasonable at the outset. You don't
see the same errors with systems that come in off the Atlantic as the
systems have less mesoscale influences and hence are inherently more
predictable (as the models do the synoptic scale quite well)
