Default May so far fairly dry in west Cornwall

It may surprise people in other parts of southern England that, so
far, May has been dry down here. Taking the 1st 15 days one of the
wetter spots is my site in Penzance with 30.2mm (42% of normal for the
whole month.)

Other figures:-
Scilly 23mm
St Ives 19.8mm
Culdrose 18.8mm
Lands End 16.5mm

There's also been 90+ hours of sunshine so far, close to the norm. The
temperature is running around 1.2C below the normal for the whole of
May. Cool, but 1996 was considerably cooler.

And yet, we've got more water in our reservoir now than we have had all
winter!

The level in Stithians seems to be independent of the weather these
days. SWW seem to spend a lot of time moving water around. I suppose
after it being so wet in Devon they've pumped the stuff down.

You could well be right, Graham. Must use a considerable amount of power to
pump water around the counties though.
