Default Stormy west Cornwall

As usual in this scenario, (low slipping SE across S Ireland) the
strongest winds followed the low in this part of the UK, the funelling
around Land's End being a factor not seemingly taken into account in
most forecasts. Gusts to 60mph locally (e.g 64mph at Land's End in
the early hours) and mean speeds up to 45mph on Scilly.

More impressive was the well forecast swell. Magic Seaweed forecast
20ft 5 days ago. Everything went to plan and the low wound itself up

steadily to the west of Ireland, and then tracked SEat just the right
speed to accompany the swell, building it all the time. The swell
built steadily at Seventones (just off Land's End) from an already
large 11' at 15:00 yesterday, to a massive 28' by 04:00 today, the
biggest swell of 2012, and very big in anyone's book.

As todays big swell was so well forecast, it's rather bizarre that the
local BBC forecast gave 8-10' swell on the north Cornish coast for
yesterday (It was actually 2-3' in the morning, increasing 4'-6'
'later) and just 5-8' for today! I've often wondered where they can
get the forecasts from.

Still, a decent source shows it steadily decreasing throughout today. From around 20' down to

Oh, also forgot in all the excitement, 28.5mm in the 48 hours to 09:00
today. Not that notable normally, but it is for 2012!
