I know this subject has been raised a few times but why is the "icon"
forecast on the Met Office site so different from the warnings? According to
the warnings page parts of the SW can expect frequent heavy snow showers on
Friday but the forecast map shows nothing worse than a bit of coastal rain!!

It seems to me that this sort of basic inconsistency undermines what is
generally a sound service and possibly could confuse any casual observer.

It's not just the warnings that are inconsistent with the forecast,
different elements of the forecast are inconsistent.

Cornwall. (The narrative is different of course)

But go to an forecast for the warmest part of mainland Cornwall

and it's snow for Thurs night onwards.

I think it just needs a bit more care & human intervention.

The really bizarre thing is that they have introduced a "Senior
Forecaster's View" which overrides all the other stuff displayed on the
website. Sometimes this countermands the symbols *and* the already
issued text forecast.

Have they thought of employing some people (or getting a decent agency)
that can actually update the website so that the correct information is
shown on it? The "Senior Forecaster's View" effort smacks of an
admission of failure on this score. Do the budget cutbacks mean they
can only afford to have the main site updated at specified times?

I'm hoping I don't become obsessed by this but today's three day outlook
states that central areas will be largely dry whereas the map has a double
snowflake symbol over the same area!! This is really irritating.

You're best making your own judgments from the charts and models
available as most of the written stuff by all and sundry forecasting
companies are just not worth the paper they're written on. Anyway,
when it comes to snow you may as well toss a coin as the nature of
snowfall in this country is inconsistent.
