Popped up to see the MIL this morning (23/12/2009)
As previously mentioned they'd had quite a bit of snow! The temp was -3C
at 10am. They say a picture is worth a thousand words - so..

Many thanks for that George. The nearest I got was I think in 1981 when
the snow came up to the bedroom windows, and people walked down the road
on top of an abandoned car, not knowing it was there until the thaw
came. The height not only intensified the precipitation but also the
wind strength, hence some of the impressive drifts.

Now those were the days - whatever happened to snow chains?!
