Doesn't look we'll have rain today (thats the kiss of death!), so my
August rainfall is 9.8mm, 22% the 1971-2000 average.

I'll be down your way (Layer Marney Tower) for No.2 son's wedding on
Saturday, so let's hope your good weather keeps going!
Thursday / Friday looks a tad breezy and showery, but with a bit of
luck, Saturday should be OK, do you think?

Just 28.4mm(39%) here so far, but rain predicted before 09Z tomorrow
for the 09Z-09Z climat. day.

According to my Maplin weather station, we have currently received 147.6mm
in Carmarthenshire, and as we are currently in a middle of a thunderstorm, I
wouldn't be surprised if we topped 150mm by midnight.

While the amount of rain may not be excessive, I was checking my records,
and found that the last time we had a spell of more than three dry days in a
row was back in the second half of June - obviously not good news for
farmers.

I wish I had a sunshine recorder as I get the feeling that this has been the
dullest summer for years here. I can recall only one day of wall-to-wall
sunshine since June, and many days (including the last two) of no sunshine
at all.

We went for walk today over our local Country Park (walking distance
from our house). I took a couple of pictures to try and show just how
dry it is here. The ground is really quite parched here and the trees
are looking autumnal because of it.

Total sunshine for August 228.61 hours (121%), sunniest since 2003.
Average maximum temperature 23.6°C, warmest since 2003 (24.2°C) then
1997 (25.2°C).

No rain today, max temp of 24.9°C. Months total 9.8mm (22%)

The contrast in weather type over such a relatively short distance is
quite amazing for this month of August.

23mm fell on the 31st, and we had rain on 20 days (slightly better than
July's 25 days).

I've just added up the daily rain for Manston - I live about 4 miles
away. They had 17.6mm, which is nearly twice Keith's record across the
water at Southend. I did notice from time to time in August that some
light showers developed over the Thames estuary and gave us some very
light drops. It's still incredibly dry here. I last mowed my lawns in
mid July. They are hardly lawns now - not even a hint of green in
them.

Sounds dreadful Pete. Take heart, you must get some rain soon.
At least you save on the mowing chore. Been mowing here every two weeks
since beginning of April and still the grass grows.
