Apparently, the same applies to Shanwell.

Yes indeed. I have happy memories of it during the summer of 1968 when
I did a radiosonde course there.
I stayed in lodgings next to the pub (forgotten name) in Ormesby St
Margaret.

Sign of the times Jack :-(

IMHO a radiosonde station at Hemsby (03496) would still be very useful
indeed.

A sad sight indeed.

It's still on the OS map
http://www.daveludlow.com/weather/he...tion_osmap.jpg but just
a matter of time before they add "abandoned". :(

I would also include all the others that have disappeared, like
Stornoway, Shanwell, Long Kesh, Aughton, Shoeburyness and the 'on
request' ascents which were done at several RAF stations.

And don't forget the soundings from OWS "India", "Juliette" and "Kilo"
- and even the Bismuth flights (but I'm really showing my age there!).

I was in the area birdwatching and happened to pass the abandoned
buildings. I was pretty sure that knew what they were, confirmed from
the OS map so took some photos.

Shoeburyness still does soundings during the week.

The hourly wind profiler also comes in handy
