built up over the years means that there are a lot of files
inter-locking with my own personal web data, and that's something I
would need to disentangle if someone were to host / maintain the site
independently.

I have virtually unlimited web space and bandwidth, and would be happy
to take over hosting and maintaining the FAQ. I'd want to put my own
'look and feel' on it, without losing accessibility - not that there's
anything wrong with the current design - but I'd be relying on the
experts in the newsgroup as far as the content is concerned.

.... I'll contact you via email sometime over the weekend to discuss
arrangements.

Martin.

How does bandwidth work?

Not sure what you mean. Strictly speaking I used the term incorrectly;
what I'm referring to is the amount of data transfer allowed per month.
Currently I'm allowed 2.25 Terabytes per month, but this figure
automatically increases by 16 Gigabytes every week.

2.25TB/month = 75GB/day = 3.125GB/hour =
8.6MB/second.

The FAQ (and associated Glossary)

I have today uploaded the latest update to the FAQ & Glossary, and this
message is to announce that this will the last time I shall do so.

I'm sorry your circumstances no longer allow you to maintain the FAQ, as
it's an outstanding resource and I think you've done a wonderful job in
keeping it up for so many years. Like David Mitchell (elsewhere in this
thread) I have a slight vested interest in that my name is in it in a very
minor way, so I'm glad to see (also elsewhere in this thread) that other
people seem able and willing to take on the job.

Thank you for an excellent reference, and for all your hard work.

I'm happy to still host the backup, at least for the next year or so,
being on blueyonder I'm allowed to run servers and have virtually
unlimited webspace as a result and, for the kind of files the existing
FAQ are, unlimited network capacity. And no usage caps whatsoever.
After a year I'll have to pass it on as neither me or my family will be
in the country for extended periods of time.
