Strongest gusts I've seen so far are 84mph at Culdrose & 81mph 1.5
miles ESE of Land's End. I don't know if anyone has any figures for
Gwennap Head or The Lizard.

Just got back from Sennen, walked to the bottom of Pedn-Men-Du (1 mile
from Land's End) and took a few photos - see
www.easterling.freeserve.co.uk/Pedn.html. (Apologies to locals for the
mis-spelling of Du on the website.)

It was still difficult to stand at times, Sevenstones still reporting
Severe Gale 9 & 21' swell.

No surfers in this morning, a great rarity on a Sunday, it's simply far
too dangerous.

Plenty of debris on the roads, with an entire tree almost blocking the
road at Tregonebris, half way between Penzance & Land's End.

This is more what winters used to be like in the '90s.

Isn't that sea a lovely blue/turquoise colour even in a gale, almost
looks inviting :-) (After seeing Southend United yesterday !)

It did look good, I waited for the sun to catch it. I think all the
trapped air bubbles helps to give that colour.

Not inviting enough for anybody to jump in, which was a shame as it
would have given more idea of scale to the photos. (On the downside
they would probably now be dead!)

200' in the air, and that wave makes the breakwater look like a model
in some cheap special effect.

Yes, scale is a problem. They don't look particulary big seas to me from
those images. I guess the only way to do it is get something man made,
into the frame like a house, harbour wall or breakwater.

I was out, to survey the damage, i was glad i was back home, cause 30
minutes later this vicious squall line went through.

The rain was more torrential than an average storm, although i didn't
get any overhead lightning, i saw plenty of distant flashes, that i
thought were power lines... but it seems there was plenty of lightning
around

It still didn't quite beat the thunder-snow Squall line from about
three winters ago though

That gives a *much* better idea of scale. What happens when a wave like
that gets to the breakwater/lifeboat station?
