Default Sound of chain saws in Haytor

In article ,

Will, how about a new meteorological statisitic field - The log index - the
higher Will's log pile, the more severe the impending winter. I'm sure the
MetO would appreciate it.

Maybe the index will follow a Log Normal distribution.

isn't there a joke which runs something along the lines of the chief of a
tribe of Indians phones the local met office and asks what the weather will
be like for winter. Eventually the guy admits he doesn't know but suspects
it might be cold.
The chief then tells his people that it might be sensible to get more wood
in than normal
Over the next few weeks the predictions for the following winter grow worse,
so the chief spurs his people into greater efforts.
Finally one of the elders of the tribe points out that they now have more
fire wood available than ever before, so just how bad will the winter be?
The chief phones the met office and asks, getting the answer, "It's going to
be real bad, have you seen how much wood the Indians have got in their
winter stock piles?"

The chain saws are going in Haytor. People are sawing up logs for the
winter in earnest now.

How's the log pile doing so far?

I think Will is feeling a little saw. :-)

Don't worry Howard, I'll sawt it all out :-)

A chip off the old block, eh?

Any truth in the rumour that where you live used to be called the
Dartforest? :-)

LOL I used to live in Bracknell forest area, had to leave though ;-)

Yes, I can see them being rather nervous. :-)

I've just realised something. Shouldn't you be using a *hand* saw? :-)

Will Hand at Haytor meteorological office said " It is too early to be certain
about the prospects for this winter but the lowering SSTs in the Iceland area
could mean that any NW winds may be colder than normal.

If we *ever* get any...

Will, what is it with you? Why do you constantly feel the need to discuss
your piles in public. Have some decorum.

Don't forget that old folk lore

or a man will meet that cruel Mistress Emma Royds "
