Default Today's model interpretation (9/01/06)

Here is a summary of the latest NWP output for noon on Friday. Issued 0533,
9 Jan 06.

The models continue to show changeable weather for the UK. Low pressure
looks like remaining near Iceland, with secondary lows caught up in the
circulation and weakening troughs crossing the UK. As usual temperatures in
such a setup would be average to above average, with the greatest amount of
rainfall for northern and western areas.

ECMWF: http://217.160.75.104/pics/Recm1201.gif
High pressuse is centred over Poland, with a trough over Ireland. Winds are
southerlies for much of the UK as a result, with SSW'lies across Scotland.
Winds become SW'lies and SSW'lies at T+144 as the trough moves eastwards,
followed by further southerlies and SW'lies as another trough crosses the UK
at T+168.

MetO: http://217.160.75.104/pics/Rukm1201.gif
MetO shows a trough over the Irish Sea, leading to SW'lies in advance and
westerlies elsewhere. SW'lies cover the whole of the UK at T+144 as a
secondary low deepens to the west.

GFS: http://217.160.75.104/pics/Rtavn1201.png
GFS shows a secondary low to the west of Scotland, bringing a mixture of
southerlies and SW'lies to the UK. Southerlies continue to affect the UK at
T+144 as a low deepens west of Ireland, followed by stronger southerlies and
SW'lies at T+168 with the low moving very slowly NE'wards.

GEM: http://meteocentre.com/models/glb00_120.html
SW'lies cover the UK, driven on by a secondary low well to the west.

GME/DWD:

The German run shows a deep low to the west, a weak ridge over the Irish Sea
and a shallow trough over eastern England. Much of the UK lies under
westerlies or SW'lies, although parts of eastern England and the Midlands
lie under NW'lies. The low to the west fills to the west of Scotland at
T+144, bringing strong southerlies to all areas.

JMA: http://217.160.75.104/pics/Rjma1201.gif
The Japanese run shows southerlies due to a trough to the west. The trough
moves slowly eastwards at T+144, bringing SSW'lies across the UK.

NOGAPS: http://217.160.75.104/pics/ngp10.prp.120.europeg.gif
Strong SW'lies cover the UK due to a deep low to the NW and a high over
Poland.

KMA: http://www.kma.go.kr/kma03/gif/g21nh_smsr_120.gif
The Korean run also brings SW'lies over the UK, again with a deep low near
Iceland.
