Here is a summary of the latest NWP output for noon on Monday. Issued 0552,
5 Jan 06. The models show a wet and windy period for the UK with temperatures at or above average in the main. ECMWF: http://217.160.75.104/pics/Recm1201.gif SW'lies cover the UK, strongest over the north and west, due to a deep low over Iceland. A trough associated with a secondary low close to Scotland affects the UK at T+144, with strong westerlies and WSW'lies as a result. By T+168 winds become lighter westerlies for all with a new trough approaching from the west. MetO: http://217.160.75.104/pics/Rukm1201.gif A trough covers the UK with stroing WSW'lies for most. The winds become westerlies at T+144 as the trough moves away to the east. GFS: http://217.160.75.104/pics/Rtavn1201.png The UK lies under a mixture of SW'lies and WSW'lies, with a trough to the west. The trough moves swiftly eastwards at T+144, bringing westerlies for all. The winds become SW'lies again at T+168 as another trough approaches from the west. GEM: http://meteocentre.com/models/glb00_120.html The Canadian model also shows a deep low near Iceland and a trough west of the UK. Winds are SW'lies for all. The trough moves swiftly across the UK and by T+144 a weak ridge brings NW'lies and westerlies to the UK. Elsewhere winds are strong SW'lies and by T+144 SW'lies sweep across the whole of the UK ahead of a trough to the west. The trough lies over eastern England at T+144 with near gale force SW'lies ahead of it and strong westerlies following behind.
