The previous latest Autumnal air frost at this site was on November 12th
2004 (records go back to Autumn 1993).
Looks very likely there'll be an air frost tonight mind you, but it'll
arrive later than 10.30pm (the time last years frost arrived).

Latest here (since 1983) was in 1986, and was Dec 10th. There
was a ferociously cold spell in Jan 87, for what it's worth. The date
of the first frost can be a bit misleading, since in 1986 the
temperature fell to 0.8°C as early as 9 Sept, but no actual air frost
until another 2 months had passed.

Very true Tudor, almost had an air frost here in mid September this year.
Cold and clear start this morning, air temp currently -2.6ºC, may still fall
a fraction.
Grass temp -5.7ºC, so a fairly moderate frost.
The coldest is been here since March 13th.

Lowest this wintoer so far is 4.0 this morning.

My latest air frost (going back to 1996) was in 2002/3 when I didnt get an
air frost until 4th January.

It's an interesting statistic, but really no more than that.
I recorded a min of 1.7C last night which is cold by recent standards
but higher than my lowest of the season so far, 1.1C recorded as
far back as 17th September, a quite significant reading.

Same up here with the air frost, -0.6C at 0801. Sharp ground frost as
well, the first one I've noticed this year. Glorious clear, crisp,
bright morning, not a cloud in the sky.

There has been no air frost here this autumn. Last night's min was
2.1C. Lowest this autumn has been 1.2C on 9th November which was only
0.1C lower than the coldest reading of the summer.

There was no air frost at Dyce until 21st Nov in 1999. 1977 and 1963
also had late first air frosts (17th and 15th Nov.)

Interesting thread Alex.

In Coventry, The average date of first air frost is 14th November, so
we won't be far out this year with one expected any time from midweek
here.

Earliest AF locally(back to 1979 anyway) was 4th October 1994 and the
latest 14th December 1999.

As for first sleet or snow dates, the earliest was 7th November 1980
and the latest of the season was 22nd January 1988.
