The Snow remembered hills

Just before I watched the M.R.James classic ghost story on Christmas/Boxing
day BBC4 "the Stalls of Barchester", I saw snatches of Dennis Potter's "The
Blue Remembered Hills".
For those that haven't seen it, it's about childhood memories of the second
world war with adults playing the children. I think it was made late 70's
early 80's. It reminded me of this NG with all those fond memories of
winters gone. All of us still kids when it comes to weather more so snow.
Ah...nostalgia...not what is used to be.

Indeed. We went to Castleton (Peak District) on Boxing Day. We thought very
carefully first - something we wouldn't have done many years ago when snow
was normal at this time of year. The big plus was getting a snapshot of a
snow-covered Mam Tor, where the shale collapses were brought into stark
relief by the snow cover.

Sadly - as always these days - the snow had gone within a couple of days.
"When I were a lad" it would last for a couple of weeks. I wonder if in 20
years' time we will have any snow at all. The snow cover on Snowdon has
decreased dramatically over the last 10 years.

Another of the excellent short stories was filmed at Wells Cathedral
just after I left school the The Treasure of Abbot Thomas.
I really recommend the BFI issue of 'A Warning to the Curious' filmed
in North Norfolk. Spooky stuff...
