I'm a little surprised not to see any locations further south and east
in the list of wettest places. Here in my part of Surrey we had the most
prolonged really heavy rain that I've seen for a long time, which I
think lasted for at least four hours.

I've had a bit of a search, and found the following totals (highest to lowest) closest to Surrey:

Herstmonceux: 16 mm
Charlwood: 13 mm
Odiham: 13 mm
Thorney Island: 12 mm
Gravesend: 10 mm
South Farnborough: 10 mm
Heathrow: 8 mm
Shoreham: 7 mm

Maybe the heaviest rain fell in the gaps between these reporting stations?
